JOB TITLE: DIRECT SUPPORT Worker-Floater Lafayette/New Iberia, LA

Job Title:  Direct Support Staff

Supervises:      Clients

Supervisor: Program Managers/Directors

Qualifications:   Valid Driver’s License and must have the ability to drive clients, good communication skills, reliable, can work independently, ability to read and write.

 

Direct support staff are those personnel whose daily responsibilities are to provide direct support to the clients by providing daily needs, such as dressing, recreating, and reinforcement of active treatment objectives.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Meets the clients individualized goals and needs and provides quality services by implementing individualized habilitation

goals and objectives.

2. Trains individuals to develop and maintain skills necessary for working and living by teaching functional, daily living,

working, social, and personal-social readjustment skills.

3. Promotes maximum independence by implementing action plans according to individual’s physical capacity, intelligence

level, and interest.

4. Promotes learning of task related and social skills by systematically training individuals and applying positive behavioral

supports.

5. Fosters client’s action or adjustment by interpreting attitudes, and patterns on behavior; explaining and pointing out new

options.

6. Documents progress by charting on data sheets; completing required monthly/quarterly progress reports.

7. Evaluates results of training by observing, noting, and evaluating progress; recommending and implementing adjustments

and modifications.

8. Provides for community integration by transporting and accompanying individuals to work or community sites and/or social activities.

9. Obtains assistance by referring him/her to community resources; arranging for appointments; establishing rapport with

other agencies; problem solving.

10. Maintains professional image in community by providing a positive role model and professional image to families,

businesses, state agencies, and the community; working as a team and keeping open the lines of communication with

Director/Program Managers and coworkers.

11. Maintains confidence and protects program operations by keeping information confidential.

12. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with rules and regulations.

13. Protects clients and employees by adhering to infection control, universal precautions, safety protocols, proper CPSI

procedures, administering/monitoring medication safely and correctly; reports critical incidents, and by training clients in

safety procedures.

14. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending staff and in-service trainings.

15. Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; participating in quality reviews; reporting needed changes.

16. Complies with Federal, State and Local Legal and Certification Requirements by adhering to requirements.

17. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

18. Skills and abilities: Ability to train adults with developmental disabilities, focus on normalization/integration in the

Community, ability to foster positive behavior in adults with developmental disabilities through behavior techniques,

ability to follow safety procedures, be persistence in overcoming problems, have a positive attitude, have good verbal

skills and tact, understand the mission of Arc of Acadiana.

19. Decision Making skills: Make daily decisions on training clients using defined sources of information, positive supports,

correct and safe CPSI procedures and systematic training.

20. Confidentiality and Sensitive Information:  Client files are confidential and information cannot be released without

permission of the client or parent/legal guardian.

21. Environment/Physical Demands: Physically able to bend, stoop, carry, mobility, talk, read and write, be able to

lift and carry light to moderate items, employees designated to work with clients with physical impairments must be

physically able to assist clients in daily living/work activities.

22. Job duties:  Direct care will be expected to be competent in the principles of active treatment through

in-service training in respect to: respect, dignity and positive regards for the residents, use of behavior principles

in training interactions between staff and clients, use of developmental programming in functional training

techniques, task analysis, and effective data keeping procedures, use of accurate procedures regarding abuse

detection, prevention, restraints, individual safety and emergencies, use of positive behavior intervention programming.

23. Reporting Requirements:  Reports must be made on deaths of clients, injuries, fights or physical confrontations,

situations requiring the use of passive physical restraints, suspected incidents of abuse or neglect, unusual incidents

and other situations or circumstances affecting the health, safety, or well being of a client.  To report procedures in

a timely manner, verbal or written reports to your immediate supervisor. All entries on reports will be legible, signed

and dated.

24. Must adhere to all rules and regulations set forth in the Arc of Acadiana Employee Policy manual.

25. To participate in team work with all employees of the Arc of Acadiana.

26. To promote the safety and welfare of each client.

27. To perform any duties deemed necessary by the Director or Program Manager.
