September 13–19, 2026, is Direct Support Professional Recognition Week—a time to recognize the people who provide essential support, encouragement, and care to individuals with disabilities. At Arc of Acadiana, this week is an opportunity to celebrate more than 500 DSPs who play an important role in our organization and in the lives of the people we support.
DSPs are at the heart of so much of what happens at Arc of Acadiana. They are there to provide support, encourage independence, help individuals learn new skills, create opportunities for community involvement, and celebrate the accomplishments that make each person’s journey unique.
Their work can look different from one day to the next. A DSP might help someone prepare for work, support an individual through their daily routine, encourage participation in a community activity, assist with personal needs, or simply be a familiar and trusted presence. While the responsibilities may vary, the goal remains the same: helping the individuals we support live fuller, more independent, and meaningful lives.
More Than a Week of Recognition
At Arc of Acadiana, recognizing our DSPs is about more than a single week. It is about acknowledging the commitment they bring to their work throughout the year and the many ways they contribute to our mission.
This week, we are taking the opportunity to put the spotlight on our DSP team. Throughout the week, we are sharing stories and celebrating individual DSPs who represent the dedication, compassion, and commitment found across our organization.
We know we could never highlight every incredible DSP on our team, but we hope these spotlights give our community a glimpse into the people behind the important work we do.
Celebrating Our DSPs
We also wanted to make sure our appreciation went beyond words. On Thursday, September 17, Arc of Acadiana will be celebrating our DSPs with special gifts and treat bags as a small token of our gratitude for everything they do.
It is a simple way to say something that deserves to be said often: thank you.
Thank you for the patience you bring to challenging moments. Thank you for celebrating the small victories. Thank you for encouraging individuals to try something new, supporting them through challenges, and recognizing their abilities. Thank you for the relationships you build and the trust you earn.
Thank you, DSPs
With more than 500 DSPs across Arc of Acadiana, our team represents hundreds of people bringing their own skills, personalities, experiences, and strengths to this work.
That is something worth celebrating.
Each DSP contributes to the culture of support we strive to create at Arc of Acadiana. Their work helps turn our mission into action—not just through the services we provide, but through the everyday moments that help individuals feel supported, respected, included, and empowered.
To our more than 500 Direct Support Professionals: this week is for you.
We are grateful for the work you do, the relationships you build, and the difference you make. We are proud to have you as part of the Arc of Acadiana team, and we are excited to celebrate you throughout Direct Support Professional Recognition Week 2026.
Thank you for showing up, stepping in, encouraging others, and making a difference. We appreciate you today and every day.
